Many of you will know about the minimalist or frugal living movement and here at the Epsom Salt Co we have put together some easy and cost-saving ideas for gifts made with love.
Beautiful Room Spray
In a 500ml spray bottle mix 1 teaspoon of Epsom Salts, 10 drops of your favourite essential oil - why not try Frankincense, cinnamon or citrus for that special Christmas scent - and top up the bottle with water. No nasty chemical, just a lovely fragrance. Make a handwritten label and tie some ribbon around the neck of the bottle or gift wrap.
Cupcake Bath Bombs (Makes 2)
You’ll need a cupcake mould for this one and a pretty jar to stack them in.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons baking soda
1 tablespoon citric acid (or 1/2 tablespoon cream of tartar)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon of Food Grade Epsom Salts
1/4 teaspoon coconut oil
3/4 teaspoon liquid (water with a couple of drops of essential oil)
a drop or two of food colouring
Method:
Mix all the dry ingredients in bowl and whisk to remove lumps. Continue whisking while adding the wet ingredients (there’ll be a little fizzing if you are using citric acid) until everything starts to clump together. Don’t add anymore liquid or the bomb wont work at bath time. Pack the mixture tightly into the moulds and allow to dry for 4 days before gift wrapping in a jar.
Relaxing Bath Pods
Make these and gift them in a sealed jar so that the fragrances stay strong.
Ingredients:
2 cups Food Grade Epsom salts
2 tablespoons of dried lavender
2 tablespoons of chamomile tea
2 drops lavender essential oil
2 drops chamomile essential oil
Coarse muslin
String
Method:
Mix the salt and dried herbs together. Then add the essential oil and mix well.
Cut small squares of muslin and scoop two tablespoons of the mixture into the middle.
Tie them up with string.
Christmas Gingerbread Bath Salts
Ingredients:
2 cups Epsom Salts
1 cup Sea Salt (Pink Himalayan Salt would be ideal)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp Ground Ginger
1 tsp Ground Nutmeg
Method:
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and ensure all lumps are out.
Then spoon into a special glass container and pop a handmade label on it.
Stocking Filler Lip Scrub
Mix together 3 Tbsp of Food Grade Epsom Salts and 1 Tbsp coconut oil. Best if the coconut oil is slightly warm and soft. Add a drop or two of your favourite essential oil and fill a little jar and pop on a handmade label. Store in the fridge until you’re ready to gift it and be sure to let the person know to keep it refrigerated too.
